Liberian Children’s Scholarship Program – 2012:

With deep gratitude to God for His gracious provision and guidance, Groveport United Methodist Church (GUMC) plans to again offer one-year scholarships to students at the Phebe Community Lutheran School in Phebe, Bong County, Liberia, Africa. In May 2012, Dr. Jeff Myers and David Kudel will again travel to Liberia to meet and interview students, review needs at the Phebe School and other areas in Liberia, review students’ academic records and meet with school staff and local officials.

Last year’s meetings with school officials and students confirmed that our scholarship program is indeed making a difference in this community. Students are so grateful for the opportunity to attend school and become better prepared for a career and productive life. All children must apply for scholarship funding each year and must maintain good academic and conduct records and be responsible members of the community. Financial need, academic interest and dedication to learning will determine scholarship awards.

Liberia is making strides after 14 years of great turmoil and civil war, but poverty is still very significant and the illiteracy rate is approximately 80%. A child’s best hope for a better future as a self-supporting, productive citizen is through private school education, and most individuals and families simply cannot afford that.

If God has placed this need on your heart, we ask that would you support this program by:
- praying for the program and the children we sponsor

- Send by July 1 your check for US$85 for that child(ren)’s scholarship to GUMC. No scholarships will be awarded until we have received funding.
